The Korean Zombie Bandwagon Reloads, And Other Fair-Weather Tales

If you think the stock market trades on emotion and snap judgments, what about the world of MMA, where this morning's prodigy is tomorrow morning's garbage? It would be comical to see the seismic opinion shifts that take place before and after events if it wasn't so sad. Complaints are plentiful about how quick the UFC and other organizations are to cut fighters who lose two or three in a row, yet is there any greater sense of loyalty shown from other quarters of the MMA world?

Here's the thing about being a pro fighter: it's hard. Your body gets beat down, your confidence betrays you at times. The media and fans openly question you, your commitment, you endurance, and your all-around game. Matchmakers stick you in the cage with opponents that are good at the things you're not so good at.

Where is a fighter's safe harbor? Look, we're not supposed to like everything shoved down our throats. There are performances that deserve to be booed, and fighters who are difficult to appreciate. There are style clashes that lead to stalemates. But the wild, overreactive swings from one fight to the next make me feel that a dramamine prescription wouldn't be a bad idea.

SEATTLE, Wash. -- This is the UFC Fight Night 24 live blog for Leonard Garcia vs. Chan Sung Jung, a featherweight bout on tonight's UFC on Spike TV event at the Key Arena.

Garcia (15-6-1) defeated Nam Phan last December in another controversial split decision. Chan (10-3) lost via head kick knockout last September to George Roop at Wreckage 51. This bout is a rematch from Wreckage 48 where Garcia emerged victorious in a split decision.

Chan Sung Jung Submits Leonard Garcia With a Twister

In a rematch of one of the wildest, craziest slugfests in mixed martial arts history, Chan Sung Jung forced Leonard Garcia to tap out with just one second remaining in the second round of their fight Saturday at UFC Fight Night 24.

Although this fight wasn't quite the memorable battle that their first fight was, it was entertaining. And the result was more satisfying: In their last bout, Garcia won a highly questionable split decision. But this time around Jung took it out of the judges' hands, using a nifty twister submission on Garcia to secure the submission victory.

It was the first twister submission in UFC history.

UFC Fight Night 24: Amir Sadollah Beats Up DaMarques Johnson

In what may have been his most impressive performance in the Octagon to date, former Ultimate Fighter winner Amir Sadollah put a serious hurting on DaMarques Johnson at UFC Fight Night 24 on Saturday night, forcing him to tap out as he rained down vicious elbows on the ground in the second round.

Sadollah showed off precision punching in the stand-up, some good takedowns and a killer instinct when he had Johnson in trouble in the second round. It was a great showing for Sadollah, although Sadollah made a point to credit Johnson for taking the fight on short notice.

"I want to say a huge, huge thank you to DeMarques," Sadollah said afterward. "He took this fight on two weeks' notice, which a lot of guys wouldn't have done. I have a lot of respect for him."

UFC Fight Night 24: Anthony Johnson Beats Dan Hardy

Anthony Johnson is back in the Octagon after an absence of more than a year, and he looks great.

Johnson, who had been sidelined since 2009 with a knee injury, stepped up and destroyed former No. 1 welterweight contender Dan Hardy Saturday at UFC Fight Night 24.

For Johnson, it was a big win that shows that when he's healthy and in shape, he's a force to be reckoned with at 170 pounds. For Hardy, the showed, a year after he lost his welterweight title fight to Georges St. Pierre, that he still doesn't have much in the way of takedown defense or ability to fight off his back. Any good wrestler is going to give Hardy problems until he shores up those weaknesses.

Phil Davis Beats Antonio Rogerio Nogueira at UFC Fight Night 24

In a battle of youth and athleticism against experience and technique, the youngster Phil Davis defeated the legendary Antonio Rogerio Nogueira Saturday night at UFC Fight Night 24.

But it wasn't easy.

Although Davis came into the fight as a heavy favorite and had been proclaimed by some as the man who would some day beat UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones, Nogueira made life difficult for Davis in the early going, and the fight turned into a 15-minute, back-and-forth battle that was closer than the judges' scorecards -- all of which gave Davis the fight 30-27 -- would suggest.

Jung, Hendricks, McDonald and Figueroa Pocket $55,000 Bonuses

SEATTLE -- The UFC handed out bonuses of $55,000 each to Chan Sung Jung, Johny Hendricks, and the duo of Michael McDonald and Edwin Figueroa for their performances at UFC Fight Night 24.

Bantamweights McDonald and Figueroa pocketed the Fight of the Night bonus after a spirited three-round affair that saw everything from wild striking exchanges to several near submissions on the mat. McDonald won the bout via unanimous decision, but Figueroa's resilience -- particularly after taking the fight on short notice -- made a major impression on the fans at the Key Arena.

Chan Sung Jung Practiced Twister Over and Over Because It 'Looks Fun'

Who says that all that time spent watching videos on the internet is wasted?

For Chan Sung Jung, the videos he found online of Eddie Bravo's unconventional twister submission helped him defeat Leonard Garcia at UFC Fight Night 24 and add an extra $55,000 to his bank account in the process.

"It's something that I saw a long time ago on the internet on video," Jung said via a translator during Saturday night's post-fight press conference. "It's one of Eddie Bravo's techniques. It's something I practiced because it just looks fun, and so I do it quite a bit in practice. I always told people I was going to try it some time in competition and I wanted to do it in the UFC and I was able to."

For the Last Time, Phil Davis Is Not Jon Jones -- and That's Okay

SEATTLE - To put things in perspective, here's what Phil Davis did at UFC Fight Night 24 on Saturday night: he stepped up and took a much tougher fight than the one he was originally slated for, much sooner than he was originally training for. Then he won a clear-cut, if not spectacular unanimous decision over an MMA vet with nearly three times as much experience as him in the cage.

To understand the boos from the crowd and the mild disappointment from fans, we should also probably mention what he didn't do: walk on water.

Maybe Davis was a victim of the UFC's hype machine, or maybe the specter of new light heavyweight champ Jon Jones still loomed too largely in too many minds on Saturday night. Whatever the cause, in victory Davis found out that it's not quite enough to be merely very, very good when people, rather rightly or wrongly, expect you to be incredible.

Phil Davis: If Dana White Says Get 'Em, I Got 'Em

SEATTLE - Phil Davis improved to 9-0 with a unanimous decision win over Antonio Rogerio Nogueira at UFC Fight Night 24, but that doesn't mean he's going to start calling for a title shot just yet.

Yes, it was the most significant win of his career so far, Davis acknowledged at the post-fight press conference, but he's in no hurry to jump all the way to the top of the light heavyweight ladder.

"Pretty much everyone I've ever fought has had more experience than I have in fighting," said Davis. "So just going through four fights in one year in the UFC has put me in a place where everyone is a lot more experienced than I am, so I just need to make sure I'm giving myself enough time to develop as a fighter."

If Georges St. Pierre Doesn't Want Anderson Silva Fight, Should We?

It's got to be tough being Georges St. Pierre right now. He's trying to get ready to fight a guy who's on a 15-fight winning streak, winning titles in two weight classes in three promotions along the way. And everyone is acting like the task ahead of him is so easy that he should already be thinking about his next fight.

St. Pierre just wants to put his laser-like focus on Jake Shields, whom he'll fight at UFC 129 next month. But everyone is talking about a future fight with Anderson Silva, as if Shields is just a little diversion on the way to the superfight we all really want.

That's true of MMA fans and media, but it also goes all the way to the top: UFC President ;feature=player_embedded#at=348">UFC co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta told Mike Straka that GSP vs. Silva is his dream fight. It seems that everyone wants that fight -- except St. Pierre himself.

My First Fight: Rashad Evans

When Rashad Evans showed up to his very first MMA training session, he was pretty sure one of two things was going to happen: either he was going to learn to fight, or he was going to get robbed at gunpoint.

He was really hoping for the former, but from the looks of the alleged gym a stranger had just driven him to, the latter seemed more likely.

"It looked like a set-up," Evans says, looking back. "I looked at the building and was like, this sh-t cannot have a credible gym in there."
